The Quran addressing the Prophet Muhammad says: “Did God not find you wandering, and give you guidance?” (93:7). Most commentators of the Quran take this verse as applicable only to the Prophet. But, the Quran is not subject to such limitation.
Every statement of the Quran, be it about a person or an incident, always gives a universal principle. So, the aforementioned verse is not applicable only to the person of the Prophet, rather it gives to humankind the principle of divine guidance.
This principle tells us that before we receive guidance from God, we have to sincerely seek the truth. Any person in history who has ever received guidance, be it a prophet or a commoner, has received it after following this principle.
One is bound to ask oneself questions such as: Who am I? What is the purpose of my life? What is death? It is this quest for answers that prepares one’s mind to receive God’s guidance.
