Salvation in Islam

The Prophet once remarked, ‘The previous communities divided into 72 sects. My community will divide into 73 sects; all, excluding one, will enter the Fire.’ The word millat in this hadith is generally taken to mean a group of people but, in fact, it refers to individuals. In Islam, there is no concept of group salvation. Salvation in Islam is individual-based and not group-based. Individuals who follow the Prophet and his companions will find salvation in the hereafter.
