The Quran was revealed in the seventh century. Those whom it then addressed performed great works. There are certain verses in the Quran which use the idiom of the seventh century, for example, God has provided people with various animals to ease travelling. Today people travel on cars and airplanes, so if we continue to think in the previous idiom we won’t be able to thank God deeply. Thus we have to interpret the Quran in a way that it becomes relevant for present times. This approach can be called ‘applied Quran’. If we do not interpret the Quran according to modern idiom, people’s minds won’t get addressed and they will not undergo true reform in their personalities.
