RAMADAN: A MONTH OF DISCIPLINE

Ramadan: A Month of Discipline

The Arabic word for fasting is ‘sawm’. The literal meaning of sawm is to abstain. During the month of fasting, a person refrains from many things. Thus Ramadan is a month of leading a controlled life. Keeping oneself in discipline is very important. Success is for one who knows the art of discipline. One who lacks discipline cannot achieve big success. The month of Ramadan is meant as training in discipline. Discipline is important both in worldly and religious aspects of life.

Eid Message: Post-Ramadan Planning

Eid Message: Post-Ramadan Planning

“In the month of Ramadan, Muslims read the Quran extensively, both in prayer and outside of prayer. This reading or recitation of the Quran is meant not only ritually, but should be done with contemplation. While reading the Quran, one would come across a verse which says that God sent the revelation for all mankind. (34:28) This means that the message of the Quran ought to be conveyed to people until all times to come. The mission of the Prophet did not come to an end after his death, rather it has to be continued by the Muslim community. This is the post-Ramadan planning in which Muslims all over the world should engage in. They must make it their mission to convey the word of God to all mankind. ”

Helplessness

Helplessness

Fasting creates a temporary situation where we experience that we cannot create anything on our own. When a person realizes his limitations and helplessness and discovers the truth of All-powerful God, the relationship between him and God is established and strengthened. During fasting a person is ‘cut-to-size’, thus his nearness to God increases in the process.
